History

The story of Confezioni Grazia traces back to Giulia Pilotti, born in 1946 in Castenedolo (Brescia) into a bustling family of ten siblings. It all began in their family home, where Giulia and her sisters delved into embroidery. Their initial foray into tailoring stemmed from Gabriella, the eldest sister who first wielded a needle and thread. Between 1959 and 1969, Giulia honed her skills at Confezioni Sampec, specializing in hand sewing during the day and cutting in the evening. It was here that she crossed paths with Orsola, fondly known as Zia Orsola, a pivotal figure in this narrative.

During 1965-1967, Giulia worked in a small workshop producing bottle-green bomber jackets. It was during this time she met Franco Ruffoni, her future husband, and in 1968, they welcomed their first child, Ivan. In the same year, Giulia and Orsola inaugurated their first modest workshop in Orsola’s residence, christened Confezioni Lidia. Employing 15 women, they crafted garments like smocks and skirts from low-quality fabrics. In 1971, Giulia and Franco’s second daughter, Elena, was born, who now directs Confezioni Grazia. However, the Lidia chapter concluded in 1976 when Riccardo, Giulia’s brother-in-law, informed them of a factory for sale in Via Goffredo Mameli. Thus, Confezioni Grazia was born, expanding its workforce to 30.

Giulia managed production, Orsola handled accounting, and Franco navigated entrepreneurial aspects. Parkas and women’s suits became staples, and collaborations with renowned brands like Gabor and La Rinascente ensued.

Zia Orsola’s passing in 1993 marked a significant loss. In 1998, Elena and her husband Mauro Varini joined the management, initiating collaborations with Blumarine and venturing into high fashion. From then on, the company started collaborating with some of the most renowned brands in the world. Today, the company, which began with Giulia’s vision, boasts a team of 60, akin to an extended family. Giulia still resides in the home purchased in 1976 near the company.
